I've developed a new series of artworks based on natural Bonsai trees that grow in the Utah deserts. These hardy trees are twisted and sculpted by the ferocious thermal winds that blast up from the bottom of the canyons and buffet the trees where they grow on top of the buttes. Most of the trees are junipers which add another twist to their development by cutting off water to older limbs to favor new growth. Although the trees are not the work of Bonsai artists, they echo the painstaking efforts put into man made Bonsai.
